The Executioner’s Heart of Man [Eradication Campaign] (Salvation Part Six)

Eradication Campaign was the original closer for Salvation, and still closes off the religious allegory of the album.

We serve the Lord
And you must die
We honor the Lord
With blood-tithes
We pray to the Lord
To confirm His will
We defer to the Lord
As we go and kill
We know the Lord
What He seeks, so cruel
We view the Lord
His desires for fools
We respect the Lord
He commands us so
We are the Lord
Our hearts are cold

It’s an eradication campaign
It’s an eradication campaign

To serve the Lord
To enact His Will
He wants blood
He gets His fill
To serve the Lord
To enact His will
He wants death
And give we shall
To serve the Lord
To enact His will
He wants sorrow
He wants strife
To serve the Lord
To enact His will
He wants your life
He wants you to die

We serve the Lord
And die you must
We honor the Lord
Our cause is just
We pray to the Lord
He tells us truth
We defer to the Lord
We kill our youth
We know the Lord
He craves blood
We view the Lord
Enact hell we should
We respect the Lord
All glory to Him
We are the Lord
Our deeds by shiv

It’s an eradication campaign
It’s an eradication campaign

In the name of the Lord, you must die
In the name of the Lord, you must die
In the name of the Lord, you must die
In the name of the Lord, you must die

God, I want to know you
I want to be your friend
I want to see fields of green
Fruitful pastures of abundance
But if the executioner’s heart of man
Is truly in Your image
Then to You I say
I simply cannot

In the name of the Lord, you must die
In the name of the Lord, you must die
In the name of the Lord, you must die
In the name of the Lord, you must die

We serve the Lord
Defile those unlike
We honor the Lord
Heads on pikes
We pray to the Lord
We revel in our kills
We defer to the Lord
His will revealed
We know the Lord
Blood dreams shown
We view the Lord
His eyes are our own
We respect the Lord
The mountain you’ll climb
We are the Lord
By our hands, die

It’s an eradication campaign
It’s an eradication campaign

To serve the Lord
To enact His Will
He wants blood
He gets His fill
To serve the Lord
To enact His will
He wants death
And give we shall
To serve the Lord
To enact His will
He wants sorrow
He wants strife
To serve the Lord
To enact His will
He wants your life
He wants you to die

In the name of the Lord, you must die
In the name of the Lord, you must die
In the name of the Lord, you must die
In the name of the Lord, you must die
In the name of the Lord, you must die
In the name of the Lord, you must die
In the name of the Lord, you must die
In the name of the Lord, you will fucking die

This song is about one possible future of many. A future that is not completely in any one person’s control. It tells the tale of Jessica trying to reconcile the supposed love of a higher power whose earthly zealots seek bloodshed, disruption, and discord.

As best that can be told, this song really does not have any Dissociative Identity Disorder overtones. However, that struggle of finding reality in a dialectic; that much is true regardless for Jessica. Multiple things can be true simultaneously. Maybe there is a God that is loving and an earthly cohort of malevolent followers. Maybe what is old (trauma) is found yet again in new (realization). Things aren’t as black and white as they need seem.
